IBA Principles
August 2002, Guidelines of the Cabinet regarding the setup of the IBA Stadtumbau 2010
6. Free spaces emerge through redevelopment:
To balance relations between city and landscape.
- Post-industrial landscapes become a part of the city in the shape of wasteland, marshland and inner peripheries, playing an important part in image definition.
- Transitions and peripheral situations between built-up and vacant land are productive zones of urban redevelopment, the emerging free spaces become experimental fields for a new type of urban landscape. A preference for life on the urban periphery can be realised in inner-city locations.
- Landscapes become worlds of experience within our cities.
